i painted the bottom part. then i figured i'd paint the arm rest part black to match where the door handle part is.

i had just used the krylon flat black stuff that i used on the plastic bottom peice. it turned out good and looked fine.

but the problem is. its tacky, i thought it was just because it got warm because it was cold. but its super tacky and i'm not sure why. i think its just because its like vinel (sp?)

anyone paint it or have it covered up? i want it to match it so its black but not sure what to do.

what kind of paint did you use? i've seen that from some "plastic" paints on vinyl coated parts. i have recovered the part you are talking about.







not a ranger, but another one i've done.

 

mines just like the 3rd picture, i painted it with the same kyron paint i did on the other door part.

its fully dried and turned out great, but its tacky or sticky. i've just had no door panels on my truck because i'm a super huge procrastinator. ha

 

would the temp that i painted it affect the outcome of it? because it was much colder when i did it,

i'm redoing a coat or 2 now that its much warmer out today.

 

i don't know. i've seen panels people have brought in the shop be like that, but not sure why. the first 5 pics, the arm rests have all been covered. and the last one, the same thing. they all have all been covered in vinyl.

 

How did the paint’g turn out ?

Was think’g, maybe the cleaning process and did you use a Adhesion Promotor before paint’g ?

I had the exact same problem when I painted my armrests...
Krylon Fusion black looked great, but wouldn't dry no matter what I did. After a few months, YES a few months it was still tacky.
I finally found some vinyl & fabric paint in a spray can, about $6 at the local auto parts store.
I shot a few coats on the armrests (after thoroughly cleaning the fusion paint off with paint thinner) and they dried up in no time & match the rest of the door panel parts I painted perfectly.

You have to be a little careful after painting the armrests though, I noticed my pass side armrest has a scratch through the paint & the gray is showing through. One of these days, I'll shoot another coat of vinyl paint on it.
