Console Armrest...

Console Armrest...
I have broken two of the foldable console armrests in my 2002 Ranger Edge. Before I replaced this last one I wracked my brain trying to figure a way to support the forward portion which is cantilevered.
I felt pretty stupid when the fix came to me. Although I don't have pictures it is pretty simple to explain.
I took 3/4 inch Oak scraps and laminated them to the necessary width. Next I cut the laminated Oak into a cube. The cube must be the dimension between the top of the console lid and the bottom of the armrest.. I marked the center of four sides of the cube sides and using a wood boring bit..the size is optional...I used the largest one I could find...1 3/4 inches if I remember correctly...and bored holes through and through the cube for asthetic appeal and to lighten it by about 60%. After I sanded the edges to a radius I was satisfied with I stained the cube.
After it dried I bonded one of the undrilled sides to the bottom of the armrest and glued felt to the underside of the cube where it rests on the console lid.
This is how I did it...but the concept lends itself to customizing it too your satisfaction..
Just an idea I thought i'd pass along for anyone that is tired of breaking these armrests.
