The compass needs to be 'calibrated'. Rather simple to do. Just google the year and make of what vehicle it came from then add 'calibrate compass'. EX: 2001 Explorer calibrate compass

The temperature side of things requires a sensor in order to function properly. There should have been one on the front of the explorer you took the console from, assuming someone didn't take it. That's how it knows what temp is outside.

Also, if the display isn't on at all, there ought to be a button on there labeled 'display' or similar that turns it on or off.

Although it is possible the computer is junk, it's somewhat unlikely. I've never found a junker in all the ones I've pulled.

These overhead consoles are insanely popular, so finding info on 'em should be easy to do.

do you have any information on how to hook up the center console? im not worried about the radio controlls but the rear heater controlls and the blower motor would be nice to have working since its already there

The blower motor is controlled by three wires. Wire 1 is ground, wire 2 is high mode, and wire 3 is high mode. You need to wire these in such a way that the two modes can never come on at the same time. I don't know what colors 2 and 3 are, but I can nearly guarantee that ground is going to be black. You can trace them back from the motor itself, however.

The controls on the back of the console I believe aren't related to the fan at all. There's a couple places to plug in a headphone jack, a few mechanical 'switches' to control the vents, but not too much else, really.

Here's the schematic I would use. It's intended for use for an electric fan like what would cool an engine, but a fan is a fan is a fan.

Here.

Just replace what would be the temp switches with a DPDT switch. Something like this would work fine, although any DPDT (double pole, double throw) switch would work just fine. Rocker, toggle, etc.

Black is ground, black with white was power on the 01 explorer seats I used. I wasn't concerned with the heater function. Explorer buckle mounts to the floor. Ranger, to the seat. I drilled a bigger hole on the buckle side of the Explorer seat and cut the Explorer buckle nut off of the track, with some metal left around it, and put it inside the seat so the ranger buckle would mount back in the original location.
