Functioning vents in an explorer console swap.

I pulled the hvac airbox and vents along with this center console from an 03 explorer. Im going to make the vents functioning.. hopefully.. going into an 07 supercab.

I'm going to go back and pull an hvac airbox out of a ranger so I can figure out my setup. My question is.. is there any differences between the ranger airboxes of different years? The newest ranger around me in a yard is 02.

No, Ford use the same 3 vent control vacuum "motors", 1995 and up for many years and on many models
1994 and earlier used cables, sliders

Vent diagram here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...ntid=517&stc=1

Two vacuum motors control air direction, i.e. defrost, panel, floor
One vacuum motor controls Blowers intake air, i.e. outside air or inside air(re-circulate)
These 3 are in the cab

Should be Red, Yellow, Blue and White vacuum hoses as shown on diagram
There will be a "Vacuum" connector to the left of glove box, this is to connect Dash vacuum hoses to Climate control vacuum hoses, so controller can be swapped out easier

There is a 4th vacuum "motor" in engine bay, it shuts off coolant flow thru heater core in the cab, only use for MAX AC
Shown on diagram with a grey vacuum hose

Explorer may have a 5th vacuum motor, for rear vent control, wouldn't think that would be used in a Ranger but up to you, should have a control on Explorer selector

Helped me

Thanks for that diagram. It will help hooking things up. I'm going to pull a ranger airbox to mock up the attachments between the explorer parts and the ranger parts. Good to know the actuator/motor and door setup is the same throughout later fords.. do you know if the dimensions/shape/internal layout of are the same of the plastic case in say 2000 + rangers. I want to be able to pull the one i can get my hands on and look into before hand.
thanks for your help !!

I'm glad to see more people using the third gen Explorer consoles. I have them in both of my Rangers, and feel they're superior to the second gen style full-length. I have the pretty rare 2002 only manual transmission version in my 2003.

You just made my day zilla.

Nice! Total motivation pic. The seats in the truck i pulled the console from were toast. Those are explorer buckets yes? Did you swap in the stock airbag pressure sensors? Or do those have sensors that can be wired up?

They were from a 2001 Explorer Sport. They only had the rail type seat belt buckle, which I left in the junkyard. I modified the seats to work with my 2003 style pre-tensioner buckles. Both the seats and my truck are pre-airbag sensors.
