I've been having problems with my oil guage. Well, yesterday, somehow, the needle jumoed UNDER the bottom little "stick" that keeps it from going to far down. Anywho, I want to take the cover thats over all the guages, but when I removed the 3 screws that hold the trim, I didn't see anything that I could remove to get the "glass" off. What do i have to do to remove this, so that I can get to the gauge needle?

 

you have to take the whole dash out.

 

Yep! That's always a fun job. I have a dash light burned out that I have to replace, so we are both in the same boat. It is not hard but takes some time taking out all the screws and bolts.

 

yeah make sure to get everything in tight again or things will rattle.

 

there's like 9 torx screws that hold the 'clear cover' onto the cluster. cluster must come out in order to remove those screws.

 

So if I just leave it like that.......it can't hurt anything right?

 

Could be possible that that's a first sign that the gauge itself is starting to die.

 

I've been told on here that it's probably the sending unit that went bad. The gauage went crazy on me last week. Then yesterday, somehow it jumped under the peg. So.......do I still have to change out the sending unit? or can i just leave it this way?

 

I would change out the sending unit. You'll never know if you are getting oil pressure if you don't.

 

Yea i don't know about you but i like to know when my oil pressure drops!

 

I want to know too, but since the gauge needle is UNDER the peg. it isnt reading anything anyway.

 

You need to take apart your dash or run a aftermarket oil pressure gauge, either way you still have to replace the sending unit.
So I'd go for the cheapest route and spend the hour to take apart the dash and fix the needle. Then another half hour to change the sending unit.

 

shoot...while your at it, make that gauge accurate! none of this 'if it has more than 8psi, you've got good oil pressure' ford b.s.

 

Maybe the needle jumped too high and went all the way around counter-clockwise until it hit the peg, yikes! The gauge is probably dead, change it, make it accurate, blah blah blah blah. Just like everyone else said.

 

I'm thinking that I'll just change out the sending unit, and add an aftermarket gauge. How do these hook up? Would it be easier to just take the dash apart, and fix mine?
