Hmm, there's a way to tune the radios reception also...i'de just ask the CB radio dude about it. Have you checked your coax for any bends or cuts?

Yeah, there isnt any. I dont know its really wiered, like ill be on one side of the street and be able to hear people and then ill drive to the other side of the street and they are gone. If i mess with the RF gain, i can usually pick em up, but i havnt really figured out all the tuning secrets yet lol. i just turn it till i hear someone. I will say though when i first got it, i was heading home from Omaha, and i was talkin to the truckers. pretty cool.

yeah. he does this thing where people from diff states try to talk to other people from diff states and if they can, they get a Handle card (cant remember the name he used for it) basically a post card from the person the talked to saying they talked on this time, this date and a pic of them and their call sign. pretty cool. his wall is covered.

Skip is just the signal bouncing off the clouds and the ground up and down.

Sadly a lot of the Unidens and Cobras share a lot of the same board design.

I will have should have some testing by this weekend done with a whip vs firestik but from my studies other places people have done better with a whip, I know if you want a good coiled antenna get a wilson 1000 They are one of the top manufacturers of CB antennas,

A Good 5/8 antenna such as the wilson or as firestik claims theres are, Actually drops the radiation pattern for better distance, While a 102 whip almost being a 1/4 wave propagates its radiation up higher. While a half wave is better than a 1/4 id hate to see 216" or 18' antenna on someones truck.

In this image you can see radiation patterns of the most comment type of antennas. The double hump you see in all the pics are 1/4 waves as a comparison of there patterns.

True, it's hard to beat a wilson antenna. They are the easiest ones to tune. (for me anyway). I had a Galaxy radio a while back, but it got stolen. Now I have my cobra 25 classic, running a Konex echo box, 7 stage roger beep, "Avon" key down, and a few toys.

What im saying is a wilson being 5/8 vs whips will produce a lower to ground radiation pattern and will reach further distance, How well they perform as a 5/8 im not sure I have not ran a whip on a truck I have done 1/2 waves for base and 1/4 for base as well,

I have ran the firestik on mobile and reached 20 miles,

Btw more info for placement on your antenna radiation patters. again.

I purchased an old 23 Pace at a garage sale brand new in a box, had the app for a license. I can imagine if they still enforced it today how much cleaner the channels could be.

I learned what I know about CB's by hanging out at the local truck stop radio shop. I will tell you this...I've seen guys have the antenna on the very back of the vehical..and gthat is good for talking forward...but hurts when you try to talk to someone behind you. I dont mean right behind..but maybe a few miles. The vehicle acts like a reflector so to speak.

Yeah, i like the look of the dual antennas right behind the cab. I know to only use one. The other is for looks. But, mine stick out away from the cab. Kinda looks goofy. I was going to figure out how to put them on the inside of the bed instead of using steak hole mounts, but since i have a roll bar ordered, i dont know if it will work..
