Heater/AC air intake

I have an awful smell from the vents when the Air or heater is turned on. I want to try the Lysol spray solution. Where is the heater / AC air intake located at?
2005 Ranger. 4.0L
Thanks

Welcome to the forum

Fresh air intake is under the cowl just in front of windshield on passenger side, there is no access to it or a filter on it

So with fan on HIGH spray what you need to into the slots and it will get sucked thru and out which ever vent direction you have selected

ONLY when selector is OFF or in MAX AC is the inside air vent opened and fresh air closed, inside air intake is just below glove box
So don't use MAX AC if you want Fresh air to be pulled in thru outside vent

If you remove the Blower fan in engine bay you can look inside to see if there is any foreign material in there that could be causing the smell
You can also put your hand inside to feel for any debris
The fresh air vent is just above the blower fan inside the firewall and the "recirculated air" vent is straight ahead
You can also spray inside to kill any mold they may be causing the smell

The blower sucks air IN from either Fresh air or recirculated air vent then blows it out to drivers side of heater box to the AC Evaporator, air goes thru evaporator and in thru the firewall to the cab vent system
Air is either direct thru the Heater core or around the heater core based on TEMP **** setting, then the air is directed to the chosen vents, floor, panel or defrost
