How do I take this shifter apart?

I want to take this shifter apart to fix it. But, I cannot see how to do it without making it worse. Any ideas?

Mine popped off with a pulling/twisting action.
Not to say yours will do it but it might.

There aren't many options out there for shift *****.
All of the ones I tried had holes that were too big.
That is why I went with the Hurst Shifter Kit and then I added an 8-Ball ****.

What are you trying to do ?

Luck on getting it off.

I just want to take it about and fix it. Then put it all back together stock. The plastic peice under the boot is cracked and the bottom portion of the shifter **** is tucked under for some reason.

Get a Hurst.

I literally tore mine apart, so I'm no help in this department.

If you wanna keep everything intact you would have to get the **** off first. Otherwise that boot is gonna be difficult at the bottom.

My suggestion is cutting the boot, getting a leather one from autozone and use some small paper clips (the black triangle ones) to secure it to the base. There is a thread and its easy. It also looks a ton better then that rubber thing.

Does anyone have pictures of the Hurst installed? Which Hurst kit is it? I will see if I can find the leather thread.

Here is the hurst without the boot. I ordered the the long arm so I made a bracket to move the shifter away from the dash. It was hitting the dash in 1st 3rd and 5th.

Finished product. The boot was custom made. The shift **** is a chome 3 inch ball ordered online I forgot where I got it.

This is a hurst with an FX4 Shifter Boot. Yes the FX4 Leather Boot fits the hurst shifter and if you have the floor bezel it will look good.

You would need a shifter boot bezel and an Air Bag Control Module Cover.

Not cheap either but may be available from Ford.

I used the Hurst Boot on my Cup Holder Bezel but didn't like it.

Buy a Hurst Kit, really nice.

Add a home made spacer to get the shifter to where you want it because the stick that comes with it is way too short.

Adapt the Boot to the OEM Ranger Cup Holder Bezel. There are write ups on this.

IF you can spend that much you will love it,

Also, if you do the hurst thing, pack the Cup Holder Bezel with foam to reduce the noise.

SEarch the write ups and search for Hurst Shifter and see what has been done.

Save for the Hurst.
