Someone cut the airbag plug on my Ranger, and I'm trying to reinstall it so I can get rid of the annoying airbag chime every time I start the truck. But I have to pull out the old plug in order to get the new one in.

But there is some sort of safety thing with it, I can't just pull it out, there is a little screw looking thing going through the plug. Anyone know how to take this out, or do I need to have the dealership do it?

That doesn't help.. the plug has some sort of safety thing on it which makes it have to unplug a certain way, or with a tool or something.

 

I have removed Ranger airbags several times. Exactly where is the plug?

 

there are no special tools needed, and there should only be one connector to unplug colored yellow.

 

if its anything like the probes you have to remove the glove box to reach the plug and its just a really tight fit

 

put up a picture. i have taken several airbags out of steering wheels and have never had to have a special tool.

 

Oh, I have to do an extra step since the douchebag who owned the truck before cut the wire to the plug. The yellow plug is the one I'm talking about.. but I have to unplug the black end that sits in this white plastic round thing. I'll go take a picture.

 

 

i may be wrong for saying this but i think you need a new clockspring. not sure if you can get into that to splice in new wires. if you try, you will have to pull the steering wheel off to get to it.

 

Ok, thats what I'm getting at. That black plug doesn't just come out? Is it permanently connected to the white plastic circle thingy?

I was thinking if I got a new plug I may be able to get enough wire exposed to solder it on. Is that a bad idea?

 

i'm pretty sure it doesn't come off. as far as trying to solder a piece in, i'm not sure about that. when dealing the airbags, i would rather play something safe by replacing than sorry.

 

Yeah, your right. Freaking idiots shouldn't own vehicles. Why the hell would someone cut that anyways??? I just found out the air bag diagnostic fuse has been removed, and the main fuse under the hood has been bridged with a piece of wire. Seriously????

 

sounds like the bags were deployed they just didn't want to fix it. put the fuse in and read the codes. that will tell you a lot.
