ok its baby time
not true my girlfriend our 11 month old and i all fit in my mazda just fine
wow some dickish answers, Im not a moron, Im not building some nikka-rigged contraption or duct-taping it to the roof lol itll chill in the passenger seat with my gf in the back. she may get her mom's sunfire anyway but Im just thinking ahead, the truck is bout paid off and should be before my spawn hatches

The best and most logical response in here.
The front passenger seat is the ONLY place designed and permitted by law to place a baby seat. The tether strap is located under the passenger seat for this reason. Its great that Ford put this there so in the event that one needed to transport a baby, they could. As to carry any other passengers in the vehicle, well adult passengers, it's a no go.
My son is 8 months now, and I have never needed to use the Ranger to get around with him of the g/f. That's what her Civic is for. By no means is the little Ford Ranger a "family" vehicle in any respect. That's why Ford made the Explorer Sport Trac....LOL

HA i just made a ranger joke!
Hate to say it chief..but its time to get yourself a more "family friendly" vehicle. Like stated above, a ranger is not a family car. Trade the truck in on a fullsize, compact 4 (full)door truck, suv, or car. Man up and make sure your providing the most safety you can for your child.
as for the people who are saying the bracket idea in the back is unsafe, if it's done right, it can be just as safe as the front seat, just because you add something into a vehicle, doesn't mean that it's going to make it less safe... i have a 1936 ford sedan, if i put a custom rear seat in, and add seatbelts, does that make it less safe than the factory rear seat? (i should remind you, no one knew what a seatbelt was in 1936)
is the bracket idea the SMARTEST idea? probably not... ford DID design the passenger seat for baby carriers, so i would put my kid there... it was intended for it, it was tested for it, it has been approved, it is legal... unless you go find the DOT regulations for a rearfacing carseat's restraint system, and you follow those guidelines to a T, THEN go get it actually approved by the DOT, and get paperwork saying it is approved, i would not do the basket idea... your girl can sit up close to you and rub your thigh, or she can sit in the back, your child comes first, then your truck, then you, then your wife (nah, jk again, but your baby does come first)
