Overhad Console

So after bidding on an overhead console on ebay for six days and the sellling price went up over $100, I went to the local junkyard today and found one in a 98 Explorer. I ask them how much for the console and the guy says $10. It is tan in color and my interior is gray. It took me all of 20 minutes to get everything out (console, the wiring harness from the console down to under the dash and the temp sensor with about a foot of wire. I've searched this forum and I think I have all the info I need to get it installed. Just have to get up the nerve to cut the headliner, paint the outside trim gray and run the wires. I just want to say thanks to everyone who has posted questions about installing one and to everyone for answering those questions.

you need the stamped metal bracket that mounts it to the roof as well.

cutting up the headliner was the first time I actually considered any of my mods to be actual mods. It takes a lot of guts to cut out holes in your roof, no turnin back either. Good luck, you'll love the extra light they put out. I don't know how I did without it..

I can let spelling errors slide, but you need to know what words mean. Theres no excuse for anyone with an 8th grade or higher education to not know the difference between these words.

Well, a center council would be nice when offroading, "hey guys, should I go through this or not?..."

There's only one other Mountaineer in this JJyard and it has the sun roof model in it, and I'm not sure it has the mounting bracket. Just let me know.

Don't get the sunroof model -- too hard to mount. The bracket only mounts the FRONT edge of the console. The rear edge hooks into the framework of the sunroof, which of course a Ranger doesn't have.

Ha ha! Good job -- someone else I know back on GenEdge did that and also made it so the center switch rolled up/down his windows or something like that. Pretty cool.

Well, if you're desiring a different one, with a potentially useful switch, then the sunroof one is fine, and I take back what I said, lol. You just need to fab up an appropriate mount.

Good deal. I got bent over on mine back in 03 when I bought it off ebay, I think I paid $140, but it came with the auto dim mirror ect, which I sold for $30?

First mod on my truck, yes takes stones to start cutting on a brand new truck, but overall cool *** mod
