You can indeed paint carpet using a product like SEM's Color Coat:

http://www.sem.ws/product.php?product_id=190

You can find it in spray cans at most automotive paint stores. Look in the yellow pages.

I would think going from gray to black would be one of the easier transistions to make.

useing a fabric dye is not too easy... i helped my friend dye the seats in his taurus when he went from a bench to bucket seats... might be easier to get some aftermarket carpet

But as to what was also said here new carpets, which you will also be able to get in different colors will be many times better and you might get some of that new car smell back

here ya go

you can go this route, but i wouldnt recommend it. it will change the texture of your carpet/headliner from nice to nappy ;o)

i tried using dye AND vinyl/fabric spray and just didnt get the nice results i wanted, so i ended up buying new black carpet and having my headliner reupholstered.

painting/dying would obviously be cheaper, but its definitely not the best way to go if you really want the interior to look great. save your money and do it right the first time!
