It's either a sunroof model or it will have the garage door opener, its easy to find one with the garage door opener.

If you do it the wiring will be diffrent. Gray/Black (GY/BK) - speed sensor you have to find in a bundle of wires coming through the firewall. Easy to find though

Hiya,

The wire from the GEM you want is Gray with a Black stripe as per Mr. John Griggs excellent post. You may have already seen it at:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394/4

I tapped into it with the gray/blk wire from the console harness. Its not too hard to find, its right there in the front as you look at it.

Hope this helps ya.

The mirror and the console don't work together, but you can use some of the power wires and so forth.

There's a thread here, but it's missing pics and diagrams which I am supposed to replace, lol -- but I haven't gotten around to it I'm afraid. When I'm SLIGHTLY less busy I'll go through my picture archives and dig them out and maybe post them on my Cardomain site so the pictures hang around. This board has has a couple of accidents that deleted my pictures that were in threads, and I changed hosting without thinking about it and lost a cache of pics I had that were linked to older threads as well.

When you cut in to your head liner then does the OHC bult to the roof for screw...also some of you said you can find them on ebay cheap....anyone find a black one let me know. Also you just wire it to you dome light then run the wire where to the back then down to the floor and either to the fire wall or what? Where to you run the wires. The OHC on ebay most come with all the parts needed??? let me know... thanks.

cardomain.com/id/n3elz pages 3 and 4 will tell you everything you need to know. You'll need the OHC with a little bit of wiring, mounting bracket and temp sensor.

Try not to get a sunroof model, the mounting plate on them is different and it doesn't sit as far back as the garage door ones so it won't look as nice.

I'm still wondering what kind of paint you used on your OHC, that looks like it turned out real nice. Does it match the middle part that is OE color well?

Yeah it looks OEM, I don't have the paint cans anymore but I'm pretty sure its just Interior Paint from Autozone with some adhesion promoter first.

Ok. I am a nooby but have done a lot of research on this. I plan on doing this upgrade. My truck is a 99 Ranger. When I go to the junkyard, what is everything that I need? Of course the console, but where is the temp gauge and stuff like that. I am not scared of wiring. I have just got done restoring a 69 F100 and adding cd player, dixie horns, sirius radio, fog lights, installing speakers, whatever. I have read alot of peoples cardomain how-to's. Are there already sesnors built in or something? You guys are talking about cutting into the GEM? I'm 18 and learning still. Thanks guys.

You will need:

1. The console itself, with all the electronics inside;

2. The console mounting bracket;

3. The wire harness. The wire harness runs underneath the headliner over to the driver's side and down the A-pillar. The more of it you grab, the better;

4. The temperature sensor, located up front near the radiator, driver's side . It will have a 2 wire-harness connector hanging out the back. Be sure the wire colors are blue/white and blue/yellow.

Went to the junkyard today and got everything I needed. I got a blue shell so I need to paint it. What prep work needs to be done to paint it?

Make sure its really clean and dry. Use adhesion promoter to help the paint stick to plastic. Use a coupla even, light coats to avoid dripping and let dry. Then paint with your interior color. Take your time and it will come out nice!

I also rubbed mine down with some sand paper first to scratch it up some to give the paint something to grab on too. Then 2 coats of adhesion promoter and a lot of light coats of paint. Runs are the enemy.

Ok, got the thing painted today and that is about it. Looks really good. That adhesive promoter really helped. I really do not know when though I can get to putting in it. Busy all this week and then going camping next weekend.
