oh, how quickly we forget...

the date is actually the 20 of december, the info posted above was changed.

and we are meeting at canadian tire, just down the road from timmies, cause the timmies parking lot is a) really small; and, b) really crowded on sunday morning...

i will post a map today of the meeting spot and where we are going....

as long as your truck is not lowered, but stock, you will be fine. since the snow has come n spades, this is turning more into a meet and off-road cruise then a full blown wheeling trip, which sucks, but mother nature is not co-operating. was kinda hoping to have the snow hold off till after our trip, but it has not, so going anywhere other then the main road is going to be a biatch!! but there will still be a few places to stop and get some good photo's and flex.

d-rock: head north on 400. follow Hwy. 11 at the split from the 400, north of barrie. keep heading north till you get to Orillia. Exit on Burnside Line. For timmies, head right its the second set of lights, for the meeting places, head left towards Crappy Tire, just after the first set of lights. You cant miss it.

change the meeting place to Canadian Tire, right of hwy. 11. just cause in the morning, the timmies parking lot is jam packed and really small. we dont need to add chaos to confusion.

so, here is the details as it stands.

Date: Sunday, December 20, 2009

Place: Canadian Tire @ Hwy. 11 and Burnside Line. you turn East/left when you get of the highway. Look for my truck in the back of the parking lot...

Time: 1030 meet, 11ish departure, for the stragglers...

Lunch: we can either stop and have a small fire and fry up some birds and beers; or, we can go to like a Casey's/montana's after... lets figure this out as well, as i can supply burgers/buns for everyone interested for like $2/head. nothing like homemade burgers. byob on beverages.

i will go through the area next week and scout out all the available bypasses and side trails, as well as any points of interest and planned stops. i will prep a map for everyone interested. the actual road (swift rapids) is about 10km in one direction and ends at a scenic hydro damn/lock.

any questions comments, pm me or post here. i will also pm my cell # to all those coming just incase.

ignore the lunch part about paying, we decided to do a pot luck style lunch. read through and see what everyone is bringing... are we still planning on having lunch out there??? or are we scrapping that, and maybe opting for a restaurant after???

here is the map, for everyones perusal...

How much snow is there in Orillia? I just finally made it home from haliburton, we got 2 1/2 feet of snow over the last few days.

we got about 14-16 inches all said and done. these where taken friday afternoon when i went for a walk with the dogs at my local forest tract. sorry for the crappy quality, only had the iphone.

btw, i love snow. so pumped for next weekend.

Seb_L 12-12-2009 05:50 PM

Anyone else gonna air down their tires? I'm thinking 15psi

lumpy4000 12-12-2009 05:53 PM

got a compressor to air back up??

cause it would be nice to air back up before hitting the main roads back to town. in a pinch, i got my trusty bike pump. lmao

Seb_L 12-12-2009 05:57 PM

There isn't anywhere to air back up close by? Like a gas station?

d-rock 12-12-2009 08:14 PM

f some fun to be had i think i may have to ride with some 1

ya, back in town. (check the map i posted, its right across from timmies) its not that far, but i just dont like driving with under-inflated tires. but then again, depends on how much snow there will be. almost every time i went there, i would always run into hydro guys entering or leaving, so hopefully the road is not to bad. but i know the side trails are gonna be kinda "sketchy", to say the least.

here are two pics of the one side trail i wanted to try, and the snow has ruined that. dont mind the dogs, pics where taken in sept. its short but challenging. for sure next year when the snow has melted!!!
here is the point where you enter, not to steep and has a minor lip.

here is the back side, when you crest the hill. sharp right and pick your way down the rocks. with a spotter and some planning, a stock truck can make this. :ninja::rambo:

heading out there tomorrow or the next day... will take pics and see how bad it is.

d-rock - got room, since the wife is not coming

d-rock 12-13-2009 12:15 PM

sick and nice dogs by the way

Seb_L 12-13-2009 08:03 PM

those dont look that bad, most trucks will make it

reader585 12-14-2009 06:37 AM

This is going to be AWSOME I am so pumped. Even with a little bit of snow it is going to be interesting. I just need to get a new drive shaft and I will be good to go.

And if any of the guys need directions or want to meet earlier that are coming from kingston let me know and we can tee something up.

d-rock 12-14-2009 08:09 AM

6 more days

yes and no. the pictures make it look easier then it is, but like i said, some ninja like moves and some brute force and ignorance and you can make it.

reader585 12-15-2009 05:48 AM

You said you were heading out like 2 days ago lol. Take pics of what it is like out there, this way we can have a idea of what to expect.

lumpy4000 12-15-2009 06:53 AM
