New Ranger owner
Hi all,
Today I purchased a 2001 Ranger XLT 4x4. She's not perfect but I think I got a solid truck. I am envisioning for this truck something mildly modded, with a small lift, slightly bigger tires, etc. The general purpose of this truck will be a) daily driver, and b) haul a small enclosed trailer (it has the tow package) to go to mx races, and occasionally throw a bike in the back.
With that said I have a few questions. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask or not but I figured I'd ask everything here instead of making a bunch of new threads. 1) the horn doesn't work. I neglected to test it out and only noticed when I got home that it doesn't work. When I opened up the fuse box I found that there is no map that tells which fuse goes to what, so if anyone could tell me what fuse operates the horn that would be great. It seems that the PO was a wannabe electrician and he had all kinds of wires running to a Sirius head unit, and some other thing that has something to do with the fire dept. (he was a fire chief I believe). I fear that I may spend a lot of time messing around with the wiring. 2) When locking the driver's side door, it will lock, but wont unlock, and you have to unlock the pass. side door to get in. Has anyone had a similar issue? I want to know what I'm getting into before I pop the side panel. 3) Did this model (XLT) come with a factory lift kit? There appears to be lifting blocks in the back, but the truck doesn't really look lifted, so I don't know if this was just how they made the truck. 4) Will this 98 11 Ford Ranger Sport 3" Lift Kit w Superlift Shocks 4WD 4x4 Add A Leaf | eBay lift kit work on my truck if the lifting blocks are not stock?
Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to being a part of the Ranger-Forums community
Rob
Edit: I forgot to add one more issue. There is A LOT of body roll, it seems that they didn't add sway bars from the factory, but even still it seems like there is too much body roll. Is this a shock or leaf spring issue? Or is it something that can be fixed by adding aftermarket sway bars? I don't need the truck to handle like an F1 car, but I would like it to stay planted at speed.

Google: 2001 ford ranger xlt owners manual pdf
You should get a hit for .....owner.ford.com....
Click on that link then click on owners manual
It will have the fuse panel maps, also other useful info for that model year
Cab fuse panel #35 is the horn relay fuse 15A, if there is no factory alarm
So the key will not unlock the door?
Or is this a keyless entry issue only?
Will the drivers door lock/unlock button unlock the drivers door?

Hi Ron, and thanks for responding.
I will definitely download that manual.
This is a mechanical lock mechanism issue. There are no power windows/power locks, which kind of surprised me in a 2001 but I'm fine with it. Consequentially there is no driver door unlock button since I don't even have a key fob.

I had someone "jimmy" the driver's door key lock and when I replace it I had it re-keyed to match ignition key(and passenger door)
But one of my keys would only lock that door not unlock it.
I did have to pull it out again and take it in to a lock smith.
In my case the key that didn't unlock it was just worn down so much that it wouldn't work in the new lock, so they wore down the lock, lol, so all the keys worked.
In your case it could be the lock itself or just a matter of wear.
The drivers door lock and passenger door lock are interchangeable, you just have to reverse the bar.
So you could just pull the panel on both doors and swap the locks if you want.
They are not hard to get out, look in the door jam up by where the lock is and you will see the top edge of a slide in "tab", that slides out to release the lock from the door.
