another newb

Hello all,
proud new owner of a new to me 92 ranger xlt. Buddy of mine got it for free just needed a clutch. He asked me to help since he had no clue. We did it, and karma came back to put a smile on my face. He just moved out west and left the truck to me...free :)

My first pickup truck and i love it. She has issues, but overall runs great and so far much cheaper to address the issues than my other and previous cars.

thanks all!
v

Hi,

1992 was a good year, well for Rangers there were no bad years, except for 2013, Ford stopped making Rangers.............

2.3l Lima is a good reliable engine, also called the Pinto engine since it was first used in a Ford Pinto in 1974.
It is a single overhead cam(SOHC) design with 8 valves, which uses a timing belt
From 1974 to 2001 Ford made this engine in the Lima, Ohio engine plant, it came in 2.0l, 2.3l and 2.5l.
Rangers used them from 1983 to 2001

In 2001/2 Ranger's got the Mazda "L" 2.3l engine also called the Duratec 2.3l engine, these are Double overhead cam(DOHC) with 16 valves, it uses a timing chain.
The Lima and Mazda 2.3l have nothing in common, except they were both used in Rangers.
