Howdy from Chandler, AZ

Hey guys, hope your weekend is progressing well. I recently purchased a 1998 Ranger XLT. It is a 4x4 with the old 4.0 pushrod V6 and the 5 speed auto. It has 165,000+ miles on it. I am working on sorting through all the issues a truck this age will have and intend on turning it into a long term utility vehicle. Occasional romps in the dirt are likely to happen as well.

I have had the truck about 3 weeks and have already started stumbling into some issues. I replaced the heater valve and most of the hoses last weekend. I also put on a new serpentine belt and tensioner. I didn't like the way the battery clamps looked, so I replaced those with the milspec style ones:

The Ranger is a second car for me. My main daily driver is a 2005 Volvo S60R. I love it, but wanted something a bit less delicate for playing in the desert. Having a truck bed will be handy as well. I can do some mechanical work myself, but will farm out the big jobs or things which require a lift.

The transmission shifts somewhat rough and I have occasionally gotten a blinking O/D light. I keep a Scan Gauge II hooked up, mostly to get accurate coolant and transmission temps out of. It didn't get any codes thrown from the ECU. Looks like I have a transmission rebuild in my future.

I am sure I'll be making a bunch of annoying newbie posts, but I'll try to keep that to a minimum. I'm a frequent poster on the swedespeed.com forums; not sure if any of you get over there.

Anywho, have a great day.
