Welcome to the forum
Ford used two different 4.0l engines in Rangers
1990-2000 4.0l OHV
2001-2012 4.0l SOHC
manual or automatic transmissions in these years did not have detachable bell housings.
So the 3.0l transmission will only bolt to a 3.0l engine
So you will need 4.0l OHV/SOHC transmission
Also needs to be a 4WD transmission to bolt to transfer case.
Since computer and wiring harness are for 3.0l it can't operate a 4.0l engine
So you also need the computer and engine wiring harness for your model 4.0l.
2000 V6 Ranger will also have PATS(passive anti-theft system) installed, 1999 and up V6 Rangers have PATS.
When you swap computers you also will need to add your current PATS keys to the new 4.0l Computer, can't start truck until you do.
Mobile locksmith can do that for you, it can only be done while computer is in the truck and hooked up, i.e. you can't take computer in to have keys added.
You could use a 1996-1998 4.0l OHV computer and wiring harness, it won't have PATS to deal with, but you will need to change fuel system.......maybe
Computer needs to match transmission , so if you use an automatic then computer needs to have automatic software in it, if manual then computer needs manual software(no automatic software)
IMO...........you would be better off just swapping in another 3.0l engine, then sell that truck and buy a 4.0l Ranger
Not sure what Washington state laws are, but in many states you can only swap in same year or newer engine.
And if its not the same displacement engine, i.e. 3.0l, then you also need to get a new title, that title will have Rebuilt on it, this is because VIN no longer matches vehicle, VIN has a code number for the engine size in it

Engine size is 8th digit in VIN
