Just bought 2009 Ranger Sport 4X4...YEAH!

Hi everyone!

New to Ford. My other vehicle is a Dodge SRT-4 2004 which sleeps during winter. I wanted a small pickup for quite some time now and decided to buy domestic. The Ranger is a sure value and I got a very good deal on this one. Only 10,000 KM, like new.

I know my Dodge inside out but I admit I am a newbie with Ford. Looking forward to get advice here and a wealth of information in the forums.

Thanks for allowing me to share your knowledge.

Marc

Mine is a 2004 so yes, it's the neon model. They were built between 2003-2005. After that the SRT-4 was the Caliber model, which never really caught my attention. The Caliber was a real deception as it had nothing in common with the bad *** attitude of the Neon SRT-4. The Neon had a forged block and stock internals were good to hold mods reaching over 400HP. Over that you played with fire. Nonetheless, it was a good platform for cheap affordable power with lots of aftermarket options to modify the car.

Thank you all for welcoming me to your forums.

There is no limit. Darrel *** racing is the king "modder" of SRT-4's. Look for his website. His "red sled" does 9.16 @ 168.5. He has a hot rod SRT-4 which does 7.90 @ 188. This is quite amazing for a 4 cyl car. the amount of $$$ pretty much decide where you go. But at this point you have to be incredibly rich and somewhat nuts about your car...(thankfully I do not meet these criterias)..lol

I'm most likely around 400HP but traction on street tires is a big issue. I don,t see the point of going any further with FWD if I can't keep the wheels on the ground. Beyond that it's time to make the switch to a propulsion vehicle....

The head gasket was definitely a problem for 1st gens neons. When 2nd gen started in 2000, this headgasket problem was gone.
