Hey everybody! Love this truck!
Hey everybody, im glad to join up here! Last year I picked up a 99 ranger. It was well used but well taken care of also and I intend to keep it that way. 1999 XLT 4.0 4x4, just rolled over 205k. I知 a big fan of vehicle enthusiast forums and I知 looking forward to being on this one. I知 not the most knowledgeable but I do like to learn and I try to learn and do as much as I can wrenching on my stuff myself. Thanks and I知 looking forward to any time I can be of help to anybody else also!

Welcome to the forum
1999 Ranger had the 4.0l OHV engine, in 2001 Rangers got the 4.0l SOHC engines, these had the timing chain issues, not the 4.0l OHV
4.0l OHV is very reliable but NEVER EVER let them overheat, you will blow a head gasket and usually crack a head, so PULL OVER
If automatic then its a 5R55E model
Manual is an M5R1 model
Transfer case is BW1354
1998 thru 2000 Rangers used the Rear axle ABS sensor as the speed sensor as well as ABS sensor
1998-2000 4x4s also came with Pulse Vacuum Hubs on front hubs to lock and unlock them, not a reliable system, you can convert them to manual hubs if it hasn't been done already
The GEM Module behind the radio runs the 4x4 system in 1995 thru 2000 Rangers, it also runs all the cab electrics
Regular cab will have a 17(16.5) gallon gas tank
You can get your 1999 owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
