Need help with what engines will fit in a 97 ranger
Welcome to the forum
+1 ^^^
Rangers are engine specific
1997 Ranger had 3 engine options
2.3l SOHC Lima, I4
3.0l OHV Vulcan, V6
4.0l OHV Cologne, V6
None are interchangeable, without also changing the transmission, the computer and the computers engine wiring harness
If you have the 2.3l Lima then the 1998-2001 2.5l Lima can be used as a direct swap
As said 1994 and earlier 2.3l can NOT be used, or 2001 to 2011 2.3l DOHC Duratec
The 4.0l SOHC used in 2001 to 2011 Rangers will fit, but need the trans, computer and wiring
1996-2001 Ford Explorer V8(302/5.0l) is narrow enough to fit in the Ranger engine bay, barely, need trans, computer and wiring
This 5.0l OHV is only 19" wide
Most of the newer engines are Over Head Cams, so if its a "V" engine(V6 or V8) it will be too wide to fit in Rangers engine bay, the 4.0l SOHC V6 was a 60deg V so fit, most are 90deg V
