Welcome to the forum
2007 was a good year for Rangers, but they all were really :)
4WD is great for snow
But stopping is not dependent on drive wheels, 2wd or 4wd take same distance to stop and have the same traction when going around a corner.
Having multi-wheel drive to get moving is the 4WD benefit.
This is why many 4WD vehicles end up in ditches at the side of the road, the illusion of better traction, all 4 wheeled vehicles with the same tires have the same traction when turning or stopping.
Laws of Physics really suck sometimes
