I'm on the verge of purchasing a 1989 ranger off of craigslist and wanted to know if there's anything I should check that could possibly be a deal changer on the purchase. Here's what I know, it's a 1989 extended cab with 98000 miles on it for under $2k. That's the basis that I'm going off, now if there's any pointers that I should look at before buying? I'm new to rangers in general and would like some insight on what to look for. Thank you

 

This isn't ranger-specific, but if it were me looking at a vehicle.. I would check out general stuff. Ask for maintenance records, see how much tread is left on the tires, check for dry-rot. Look for rust, bubbles in the paint might indicate some more extensive damage.

Also, crawl underneath it, look for leaks, damage to rubber boots, etc. Typical things that might mean you have to do some maintenance and maybe give you a little negotiating wiggle room. And of course test drive it.
