New here!

I am new here. Working on a 92 ranger xlt with 3.0, that is running rich, no power and dies. Trying to figure out what to do! Heard that a egr valve or dome sensor could be the problem. Any ideas!

That’s supposed to say DPME sensor, not dome!

Welcome to the forum

Its actually the DPFE sensor, but not your problem unless the CEL(check engine light) is on, which you don't mention

On a 1992 Ranger with rich condition symptom my first stop would be the Vacuum hose on the FPR(fuel pressure regulator)

There are two fuel lines that come into the engine bay on drivers side
Follow both
One will go to the fuel rail, its the IN from fuel filter, it feeds the injectors
The other will go to a cylinder(the FPR) and it will have a vacuum hose attached, this is the Return fuel line

Remove that vacuum hose and check it for gasoline, should be NONE, if there is any then replace the FPR
If FPR Diaphragm leaks then extra fuel is sucked into the intake via that vacuum line, so Rich running and stalling

Thank you Ron, appreciate the info.

The CEL doesn’t come on that I have seen. It is running so rich gas is getting into the oil. Pulled the dipstick tonight and the oil smells like gasoline. Now I have to do an oil and filter change.

Then you may have a stuck open injector

There is a way to find out AFTER checking FPR vacuum hose, as that will do the same thing, fuel in the oil

All fuel injection computers have a "Clear Flooded engine" routine
Its a way to turn OFF fuel injector while cranking engine over to dry it out

Turn key on
Press gas pedal down to the floor and hold it down all the way, injectors should now be OFF
Crank engine
It should NOT start or fire at all

If it does then there is gas leaking in

So open the hood and unplug the Coil packs 4 wire connector for No Spark

Do the above test again
Crank it a few times, gas pedal to the floor
Now pull out the spark plugs
The WET tip spark plug has the leaking injector
