New (To Me) 2002 Ford Ranger
Hello all,
A few weeks ago I accidentally stumbled onto the truck I've been wanting. I was at an auto dealer doing some training and a customer drove in to trade his Ranger. I fell in love with it but then my heart sank when I saw the odometer... only 18K miles! I thought for sure it was broken an true miles were unknown.
I talked to the guy and he said his grandfather just died a few months before and left him the truck. His grandfather lived in Danville, VA and wanted a 4x4 to get out if it snowed. In the end, he only used the truck to go to the store and to church. The mileage was real! I immediately told the used car manager that I wanted the truck and paid for it a few days later.
This truck is pristine! I'd consider myself and enthusiast on vehicles that I love and usually work on the preventative maintenance before working on cosmetic stuff. Aside from maybe changing the coolant and brake fluid here shortly... I really don't know what else I should do. The tires are original but show no signs of dry rot for being 15 years old... So I figure I'll keep them for now. Anyone have any other ideas what I should check?
I went ahead and pulled the 6-disc head unit and installed a Jensen head unit with Nav... I'm in the process of hacking that so I can have a custom Ford splash screen when I turn it on. Other than that... I have a set of 2006 style power mirrors and a Mustang done light on the way. (Yes... I've been doing a lot of reading here!) I've got a bull bar in the garage ready to go on this weekend.
Here she is before I even cleaned her up! If you have any thoughts... I'm here to listen!
Thanks!
