My name is Evan. I have a 2003 Ranger 4X4 and would like to fix problems myself.

Welcome.

Should have bought a Chevy if you wanted problems to fix, lol.

Joking, hopefully problems are few and far between but people here will help get you going.

Thank you. I joined to try and find out how to replace the thermostat housing on my 2003 Ranger 4.0 sohc. The shops want $700 t0 $800 to do the job. They are including a manifold gasket. Does the manifold have to come off?

Explorer and Ranger both used 4.0l SOHC engines

Good read here, with pictures, on what is needed and how to do it: How To Replace the Upper and Lower Thermostat Housing on a Ford 4.0L V6 SOHC Engine

You do see 2 engine temp sensors in the above How-to, Ford switched to 1 sensor at some point in early 2000's but everything else will be the same.

Thank you. That was just what I needed. If I don't have any leaks, can I change just the thermostat and the sensors?

Sure, can't remember when they did the redesign on the housing because of the leak issue, you could just google the 2003 year and see how many people have asked about housing
