After a few weeks of searching found myself a 97 Ranger XL 4x4 with the 4.0L engine and 5 speed transmission. Truck is lifted with a skyjacker kit and wearing 33x12.5R15 tires. 163,000 miles but it appears well maintained and the body is in good shape. Needs a wash bad. Spent the last few years on a horse farm moving a water tank around. Had a beehive under the passenger side mirror, coors cans on the floor, and the center console was full of 45 ACP brass. Best part? $1200! There are a few pressing issues I'd like some advice on.
I'm registering this thing in Milwaukee where it needs to pass an emissions test. All that means is it needs to not throw any DTC codes. Right now it does have one: "P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Bank 1 or Single Sensor" I have 45 days to get this fixed and tested. Anything easy or known weak points I should check first?
Also this is my first 4x4 and my first lifted vehicle. I know nothing. Is this setup any good? What maintenance does it need?
