New Ranger a bust for a new owner.
New Ranger a bust for a new owner.
Hey everyone,
Thought I'd stop in and say "hey" real quick like. I just bought a 1986 Ford Ranger with the 2.9l V6 4 wheel drive... Well I didn't buy it I traded my 98' dodge ram for it... Which actually ran, not so good but more so than this ranger.
Anyway the condition the ranger is in is this... It's leaking oil like a sieve, the radiator has a nice sized crack in it, it seems that the ignition tumbler is only good for starting the truck (It doesn't turn it off.) When the key is on and the truck is not running the fuel relay is activated non-stop and you can hear the fuel pump whine allot on both gas tanks. Engine isn't fond of even the tiniest load, it'll stall.
And yet none of this was apparent UNTIL I parked the truck next to my house after driving it 10 miles in traffic. But even though I got cheated I am looking forward to restoring the truck to the best running condition I can and then add a bunch of cool extras and what not.

All that stuff you listed is not the Rangers fault, its pretty much whoever's fault that owned it before you. You will find that once you replace all that mess, you will have a dependable truck on your hands!
Btw, post pics of the ig, and welcome to the forum, we will help in any way that we can!

Here are some pictures. And I'm sorry if I seemed as if I was blasting Rangers. I'm a Motorcycle mechanic and understand peoples vehicles break down because they neglect and/or abuse them. I'm happy with the trade even though the truck was neglected engine wise. The interior and exterior look awesome on this truck for how old it is.
