Just bought an old 2007 Ranger cheap and now I think I know why. It sounds like lumber going thru a planer in a Sawmill when I accelerate. I am hoping it is just U-joints or something small. i only paid $3000 for it so I am afraid I made a huge mistake. Anyway, it looks as though I am going to have to resurrect my old P/T Mechanic skills. I am 64 years old and don't relish crawling under a truck but C'est La Vie. I will probably be on here now and then looking for some advice so we will see you around!

Welcome to the forum.

2007 Ranger 2WD with a 3.0l engine, should be a good setup

Automatic or manual trans?
Automatic will be a 5R44E
Manual will be an M5OD-R1

It's a manual trans with the 3.0 l engine. Truck runs beautifully except for that metallic type noise coming from somewhere in the drive train. I step on the gas, it sounds like a sawmill. I let off the gas, the sound goes away. Very annoying!
