Prerunner build

Hello everybody! I just got a hold of this 4 door ranger and I live in Tijuana so I thought it would be fitting to make it into a prerunner like the Baja 1000 ones but i don’t know where to start. I would like to build one but still have functionality of a daily driver.

It has a straight 4 cylinder 2.3 L engine with a 5 speed manual transmission and RWD. It uses leaf spring suspension and no springs in the front it has these straight bars that go from the middle of the chassis to the arms and that’s where I’m getting confused about the suspension. Also I was wondering what size of tires I can use.

Body panels and cosmetics I can handle the install but the mechanical part is where I have no idea where to start. Here’s some pics of my bone stock ranger:

Welcome to the forum

You have a South American Ranger, built in Brazil I believe
We could never get those full 4-door models in the US or Canada because they never applied for safety testing up here, so couldn't be imported

A pre-runner "look" is pretty much all about the suspension, long travel and good ground clearance

You have torsion bar springs up front
You can read some articles here about different "lifts" to get "the look": https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...spension.shtml

A full 4-door is pretty long for an actual pre-runner but "the look" is still good to have

You have a 2.3l Duratec engine, a Mazda L engine, and an M5OD-R1 manual transmission

Thanks for the info! I’m not planning on racing it because I use it a lot to go out with friends and family so I’m keeping the interior semi stock but definitely going for the “look”

If all you're wanting is the look, you should be able to throw some lift spindles on the front and some fiberglass "baja" fenders on it with some 33-35" tires

Its pretty simple. I did a spindle and fiberglass fenders on mine. Just for the looks. Interior im just planning on putting some bucket seats and keep it functional as a daily. Btw im from tijuana too.
