Salutations from Spokane WA

All,

I'm a proud '07 Ranger owner, knowledgeable in many fields, though automotive is not one of them. I am Looking to learn a few things to keep my fine four fendered friend from Ford fantastically functional. I thank you all in advance for your time, patience, and help.

Thank you both for such a warm welcome! I have visited this site before, but now I feel it is a good time to join community. Though I have only spent a few hours searching, I am not quite sure where the best place to post my question/situation (which is what prompted me to join), and automotive jargon is proving harder to learn than anticipated. To return from my digression and conclude, I look forward to continuing my journey as a Ford Ranger with such a knowledgeable and helpful group!

The forum is divided into several technical sections, depending on what area of the vehicle is in question. From the main (home) page, you will see these broken down into "Technical" sections for things such as Engines (these are broken down further by specific engine), Suspension, Electrical, etc. Whatever ails your truck, just select the appropriate section and search that section for posts similar to your issue, or failing that, you can create a new post and ask for help, info and guidance. HTH! :)

Thank you for the info! My problem (to make a long story very short) involves my engine making a metallic grind noise then stalling out, mechanic says piston seized, so needed a new engine. Tax return is in, new engine is bought, just not sure what all goes into swapping 1 for 1. I will see where within the 'Engines' section would be the best place to start. Oh, and as a side note, my wife and I find your animation fun. :)

You will want to post in the 2.3L Duratec engine section. We have several members knowledgeable in that area... most notably "RonD"... he is a walking service manual LOL Swapping out the engine for another just like it is pretty simple as everything will be the same. Of course, still a lot of work! Just post your questions in the forum as I mentioned above and somebody will come in to help.

Yeah, I like her too... she keeps me young at heart! :)

When you say you're getting a new engine, is it a long or short block ?
Short blocks are typically just the bottom end only with no heads.
Long blocks include the heads and sometimes the water pump and alternator.

You'll have to re-use the flywheel/ring gear depending on what transmission you have, auto or manual.

Some advice, although not a complicated engine, Ford used allot of different sized bolts for mounting the various components. Allot of these bolts do double duty for mounting wiring harnesses and brackets for different things on the engine with in the engine bay.

Keep track of all the bolts and things things, especially if it takes a few weekends to get things done.
I use sandwich bags and recipe cards to keep track of it all. It all depends how good your memory is.
Take pictures if need be, don't take it for granted that you can remember where things go.

Jeff,

Thank you for your interest in my endeavor. I have started a thread related to my project HERE: https://www.ranger-forums.com/dohc-2...change-150363/. She has a standard transmission (best anti-theft feature I found), and the new engine says long block on the printout. With a memory that fails to recall conversations from 10 min ago, I can fully appreciate the sandwich bag/note card advice. I plan to fully implement this into our workflow. Thanks again for your input!
