3.0 swap... but not the one you're thinking of

Anyone ever tried something like a 6G72 swap - i.e. the motor from a mitsu 3000gt? Seems like it would be a good little motor to try. Can get a N/A one for cheap, run it like that for a while(220 hp would be ok), and then swap on the stock turbo setup from the VR-4 . Everything is the same except for the headers and the intake from what I've seen.

Only a couple of issues:
Trans - most of the motors were mounted laterally. But luckily the montero used a longitudinal engine and I can use that trans, possibly those motor mounts.

Headers - again lateral engine problems. but I think they will still work with a custom pipe from the turbos back to my existing cat-back system.

Electronics - I think if I can pull all the electronics out of a donor car I can make it work. might have to use the 3kGT cluster, but maybe not.

Driveshaft - probably have to get a custom one made to go from the mitsu trans to the 8.8.

Truck is still registered in TX, not a huge deal on emissions.

Anything I missed, other than the usual swap problems?

You could do a custom gauge set-up if you use the PCM for the Mitsu engine. Get some Autometer gauges and have a custom gauge panel made for the original spot where the Ford gauges used to be.

I will. Looking at a 3000gt right now, he's asking 1100 and working him down to hopefully less than 8

Build thread will start when I get the truck home to where the car is. I'm at school in California, but am going home to Texas for the summer. the car is in Texas, and the swap is going to happen in Texas. unfortunately that another few months. Makes me sad.

Thanks. Luckily I have a bunch of good friends who have spent a lot of time swapping motors, so I can get some good help.
