Well, I'm going to try this on my 01. I'm tired of having a keyless fob and a remote start fob. Plus I broke my keyless fob.

I bought these keys:

I will let you all know how it works out. I've been wanting to do this for awhile.

My concern is that according to the chart in the link below, the Fusion does not use a Type E PATS. We will see though?

This is an old thread and a few people have successfully used this type of key in a Ranger. One thing you may run into is an interference between the larger RKE head and the "cup" around the Ranger steering lock. Others have cut this away to make the RKE/PATS ket fit.

Thanks Bob. I noticed I'd have to modify the "cup". I did receive 2 keys today. I had one cut at Lowe's for free, just have to dremel the cup tomorrow.

I thank whoever suggested Lowe's! I was able to get my key cut tonight around 8 when all the hardware stores were closed. And best part is that it was free. The older gent simply said "I've got no way to charge you" haha

It works! AWESOME! Highlight of my day so far! I'll get a picture of it posted later

Now I'll go get my other key cut and program it. I didn't want to cut both keys if it wasn't going to work.

Good to hear it worked - I dove right in before checking, and purchased a replacement standard key and a RKE key. Haven't gotten 'em in the mail yet, but.. eagerly waiting.

Are you going to attempt something like this with your 2010? You didn't buy the same key right?

I have no idea. I don't think I got the same key - he's still using his, I guess? :) I just got one off of eBuy, thought I'd try it. My post.. uhm.. elsewhere on the forum mentioned that the 4 button remote would work with the 3-button system ('cept the 4th button wouldn't do anything, obviously), so.. we'll see.

I'm just aqsking, because from my understanding, you can't do this mod with a 2010. Unless you bought one of those aftermarket keys that's design with your specific PATS system.

I got the specs from the seller, and apparently the PATS system matches, so it *should* work. The remote, I'm not sure about. I should get them today, so I'll have 'em cut and try them tonight. Knock on wood, I'll post my results when I do. :)

Quick update - won't be tonight, since UPS didn't show up. Means that since the office is closed until Monday, I have to wait the weekend. :( So, hopefully, I'll post results Monday!

Quick update #2 -

Of the two keys I ordered (PATS & Remote, standard PATS), the remote one programmed and works fine!

Unable to program the PATS in it yet, as my Dremel isn't working, like earlier posted, it won't fit in the .. whatever that is around the key. However, I do not expect a problem programming PATS part of it.
