I just bought my first Ranger and I want to do a few things to it.

Hey Guys,

I just bought my first Ranger about a month ago. Unfortunately i bought a truck that needed a lot of work (but i didn't know it at the time). Its at my friends ford dealership getting a new engine and tranny (I got a really good deal thankfully).
So when I get the truck back its going to be good as new. So take a look and tell your opinions.

Heres my Ranger:
Its a Black 2002 Ranger Edge 4.0L V6 4X2

Here is my truck, and below it is a list of what I want to do.

Name: web.jpg
Views: 154
Size: 150.4 KB

I wish to complete the list in this order:

1. Window Tint (15%)
2. '07 Emblems
3. HID Lights
-Head Lights (6,000k)
-Fog Lights (3,500k)
4. K&N 57 Series FIPK > Performance Intake Kit
5. Exhause
-Im not quite sure what I want to do with the exhaust. I don't want something
that sounds to loud, I just want something that sounds deep and smooth. Just a nice sounding exhaust.

So there's my list guys. Please feel free to tell me what you think. I open for new Ideas, brands, and constructive criticism.

As 06+ Signal Corners to the list and black out your headlights and corners. They will really look awesome on your black truck.

06+ tails are a nice touch also and if you have want you could so 06+ mirrors to.

I think I will just do the air box mod and the stock replacement K&N. Well I took a major risk by buying it on craigslist, and now I'm paying for it. I was playing around in the mud a little bit when all of a sudden I had no reverse, no 3rd gear, and no overdrive. So I took it to my neighbors shop and it was just bad news from there. All the cylinders were working about about 90% percent and there was no way it would have ever passed smog. So I got an engine/tranny combo for $2,300 installed. both under 45,000 miles.

Keep the imputs coming. I'm not sure what brand hids I should get, or what kind of exhaust. Im thinking Gibson?

Thanks for your input!
I've always wondered about blacking out the headlights. Wouldn't that make the headlights way more dim?

Now do the 06+ signal corners and tail lights need fabwork? Do you know of a how to?

The 06+ corners and tail lights fit no problem. When he said "black out your headlights" he means opening up the headlight and painting everything but the reflective part where your bulb shines. It doesn't make your headlights dim at all. It makes them look like this:

you bought it with out a clean smog? or had it passed in the last 90 days? you live in cali smog test had to have been in your mind when you bought it

for exhaust pick up a muffler you like(people are just gonna start the chokemaster, magnaflow mess here) id say cherry bomb vortex, single in single out 2.5" and just go to a muffler shop and have them weld you up a cat back, just make sure they use mandrel bent tube.

i also like the stock headlights and corners esp on an edge, looks way cleaner imo then the 06 corners and black housing lights

Hopefully your joking, How is it a waste? I have fipk 57 with throttle body spacer and 33's and some guy in 07 ranger 4.0 stock tried to race me last night and I still pulled on him, that's with 33's and 4.10's and I still struggle. My advice would be to get a CAI, saves a bit of fuel and add's an extra kick, you will notice the difference guaranteed. But def get an exhaust, cause my air flow is ****ty with stock exhaust.

and no, I'm not here to start an argument, I just think that's dumb to say their a waste. I know guys with air box mod and it's not even a comparison to CAI.

Yeah I don't mean black covers on your headlights. I mean crack them open and paint the silver black. As for the 06 tails they bolt right up. Or you could keep your 01-05 stock ones and tint the red to black. I like both setups equally.

If you look around in threads and in the pic albums you will see TONS of 01-05 Rangers with that setup.

hopefully you are as well lolz

is a cai a waste; no, will it increase throttle response with proper design; yes, is a tube and a filter worth $250; never, thats why k&n is a waste.

I like the 01-05s tinted. I don't like 06+s tinted. They looked better stock IMO

Why spend that much on a piece of pipe and a filter. All your paying for is the name. I've never liked them they make to much resonance/ turbulence and can mess with MAF and IAT. All they do is allow more air causing the engine to run lean thus better gas mileage.

YouTube - Cold Air Intake - Waste of money!

Does a K&N stock replacement filter in a moded air box let in the same amount of air?

I'v ran them in plenty of vehicles and never had a single problem with MAF. Your right about price being to high. But it's still not a waste, like you said it will allow for better fuel mileage........Second it's actually a significant notice in hp, especially if you have bigger tires. They are proven, not saying they are badass or anything, but that's why K&N has such a good name and why prices are high. I'd rather spend more money for something like that and have a noticable difference, then have air box mod with drop in and not notice anything.

That video BTW was so f-ing ignorant.

back to the main topic-

i think a billet grille and billet lower grille would look SICK with that black truck!!

and a smaller mod(if you don't listen to the radio a ton lol) a shorty antenna would clean the look even more. plus they're cheap!

oh and get some fx4 seats :) lol

as for exhaust I personally like magnaflow. quiet at idle but roars to life on the throttle. i'm running a 14" muffler and had a shop cut/bend me a cat back 2 1/2" dual exit.

Can you order new fx4 colored seats from ford or anywhere? or do you have to find them?
