Lookin' for Advice.
This summer, I am planning on tearing my Ranger down to the frame, and having all the bodywork done, all the rust from 16 years of the Notorious ONTERRIBLE salt fixed, and I have a S.A.S. in mind. As stated in another thread somewhere on here, I will be replacing the fenders and bedsides with the 4" flared ones from Camburg, and I plan to run 35's. Personally, I don't mind the TTB setup that Ford engineered, but for what I plan to put this truck through, it's just not enough. So, on with my questions:
1)What front axle should I use?
2)Should I keep the 8.8 rear end?(if not, what should replace it?)
3)I am building a stroked and blown 4.0L coupled to a performance built 5 speed, so what kind of gears should I use?
4)Will a stock(performance built) T-Case suffice?(if not, what should go in its place?)
5)Is there a 'How-To:' somewhere that will educate me on how to do a S.A.S.?
6)And lastly, do you think I'm going a wee bit overboard? lol
Keep in mind when the body goes back on, the body mounts, hoses, belts, weather stripping, bushings, you name it, it'll be NEW. I don't want to cheap out and have something crap out on me when I'm a mile off the charted road.
Thanks in advance (hopefully I'm not asking too much lol)

Every single one of these questions has been covered . . . multiple times.
You don't need a How To: SAS, there is more than enough info here and on TRS to answer each question/concern you may have.
Search "SAS" or "solid axle" in Drivetrain & Suspension Tech, you won't find a shortage of reading. (this applies to every question asked here and 50% of other threads)

I say you use all that money that will be going into your truck and put a nice down payment on a new/almost new one. I'm in just about the same position, i want to do stuff to my truck but I would be putting a couple thousand into it so i figure with a trade in and that down payment a new truck would be viable. Just my 2 cents.

If you are asking these questions, get your reading glasses on and start trying to fine every scrap of information you can. You are lucky, with that 93, SAS is a very common swap, alot more common than the 98+
Search
Replace it with a 31 spline 8.8 from an exploder, or a 9 inch.
What HP are you planning on putting out? What are you using your truck for? rock crawling, or mud?
Probably not, again search and you shall be enlightened
No everything is custom, there is no point in doing a How To, because everyone uses a different setup for their individual application.
If you want to keep the TTB, I believe that you can splice in the knuckles for the D44 TTB to beef them up. Look in the tech section of TRS.
But seriously man, start reading up on it. If you do not have atleast some idea, it might be too big of a project for you to handle.

I want to use the truck for muddin' and I want to get at least 250-300 hp if I can. And as much as I'd like to, a new truck is out of the question. My credit is useless and I don't really like the look of the newer Rangers. I fell in love with the 1993-1997 body style a few years ago, and that is what I want to build off of.
I am only considering a SAS, but I am more than likely just going to keep the TTB setup for the time being. The D44 TTB knuckle swap is something I am definitely going to look into, along with the Exploder 31-spline axle swap. But 2 questions still remain: Do i keep the 3.08 gears or go to something like a 3.73 or higher? and Do I rebuild my stock T-case or use something else?

Well, my uncle has a way of talking me out of what could/would have been a complicated mess that I'd never finish, which he did, yet again. I'm back to where I originally wanted to be with my truck. Link to other thread is below...
