Icon5 questions on my engine..

My ranger has the 4.0L in it. Ive not done really anything to it except an AEF intake, and a mass airflow sensor. I havnt been able to find much info on my engine except that its the OHC version since its a 2000. If anyone can give me some good info about my engine i would greatly appreciate it. I was wondering if its anything close to the 4.0L H.O. engine in my friends Jeep?

no its nothing like your friends jeep thats a Chrysler, and a Inline motor. you have a V6 push rod motor. not to much is out there for it anymore being it hasnt been in production since 2000.. there is a few cam kits and things.. but no blowers or anything like that unless you can find it used

Well, I knew that The jeep was an inline, but other than that i wasnt sure. What about the power output? I have a few options such as a 3.8L out of an old thunderbird SC, or just trying to find a newer 4.0 SOHC maybe out of a wrecked Ranger or explorer. But that will be way down the road. I just spent 6 grand on the lift kits, wheels and tires, exhaust, intake, roll bar, cattle gaurd, kc lights and such. For now, im prob. just going to try and get what i can out of the current engine. its only got 80,000 on it so its not bad for a 2000.

If you are going to do a motor swap, go with a explorer 5.0 liter. In your year vehicle, they are not to hard to install...

In the first post, you said it was an OHC (Over Head Cam) but you all are talking about the older 4.0 OHV engine, which one is it?

If you make it faster it won't last as long if you use the extra power racing or driving hard. Just leave it alone and enjoy it. You've done some visual mods. and the engine has a good amount of power. Street racing will get you in trouble as speeding will.

You've got the 4.0L OHV (pushrod) not the SOHC.

2001+ 4.0L's are SOHC.
