The M5OD-R1(M5R1) has engine specific bellhousing, it does not come off

FM-145 has detachable bellhousing so your 2.3l bell housing could be used on FM-145 from a 2.8l/2.9l engine, but not FM-146

And, of course, for 4WD

M5R1 would be the better one to get, same transfer case bolts to either

 

 

That should be a 1986 built trans, E6 = 1986
