I bought this in uninstalled condition from Jp7, and it is still in uninstalled condition. I found out that it WILL NOT fit a 4.0 SOHC. It should fit any 1992+ 3.0, 2.3, and 4.0 OHV. Check under your hood for the alternator mounting, the wiring, and clearance behind the alternator, as that is the issue I had. Also check out my pics of the alternator compared to OEM and also showing the clearance issues.

I am asking $340 shipped for this alternator. I will include a precut length of Monster clear 1/0 cable with ring terminals, I would recommend adding a fuse though. If you want I can get you one.

In the interest of full disclosure, I did buy this for $329 from Jp7, and yes it came with some different cables and things. I'm sorry, but I like them, and plan on using them. If you're mad I'm asking more than I paid, I'm sorry. It's still cheaper than you can get it new, and I am spending over $400 on a brand new alternator that will fit, so it's not like I'm swindling anyone. I really won't come out ahead anyway after shipping. If you are local I can help you install it. I fyou aren't... I can give you advice on installing it.

-6.0 Powerstroke engines
It looks like it will bolt up to a 6.0 Powerstroke, wiring MAY be different.
-Ford excursion, 6.0 or 7.3


See here the OEM alternator has a smaller housing than the new DC power.

 

So there were no possible modifications to be done?

I don't think so, but you COULD possibly get a valve cover off say the mountanier, explorer, or other 4.0 SOHC, they do have a different oil filler location. then also relocate the factory line. I just didn't want to get into all that, seems like a hot mess to me.

sounds good man just let me know. when you get a chance, take a look to see what clearance is like behind your alternator. I'm sure it should fit, I'm just kind of curious. Post a pic if you can.

Yeah, it's a bummer, but I don't fault him for it at all. We talked on the phone about it several times before I bought it and he seemed like a really helpful guy. The alternator looks really sweet and I'd love to use it but I won't be able to.

the only issue I can think of is clearance. I'm not sure if it has the room behind it, but the bolt pattern and wiring is the same. it looks liek from what I have seen that clearance is pretty tight but I havent been able to get a good look in person.

This is the specific alternator. It has a vehicle application list, but it doesn't list for any 3.0 past 95, and thats what they said it was for when Jp7 bought it. So it may fit the explorer 5.0, I'd have to see one to be sure. You might give them a call.

The best thing to do would be to check the clearance behind. If you have room to run your hand behind there easily you're good, or if there are soft hoses than can be compressed, moved, rerouted, etc. If you have trouble getting your fingers on the backside of the alternator, then I don't think this will work for you. Otherwise, it is my opinion that you should be good.

As for the bolt pattern... if it looks the same, it is. The other ford alternators I've seen are obviously different. Wiring as far as I know is always the same as well for this style alternator.

also, I will include the two Kicker terminals like this one, and a 1/0 ground cable. So you will basically have a bolt on swap, 1/0 power, 1/0 ground, and necessary terminals.
