I am now looking at replacing my 14 year old Ranger... I really hate to do this, but it was recently in a "fender bender" that was not my fault, several estimates have come back from body shops and with the sheer mileage and age of my vehicle I believe the insurance company (the other guys company) will just write me a check and "total" it. I know its not in that bad of shape, but due to its age something/anything could start to go wrong... ok, so now the good part


I am looking for a 2000 or later (preferably the new body style 2001 >>) Ranger with either an extended or super cab. I love the flip out doors on the newer body styles. I need it to be a 4x4 and I dont really care if its manual or auto, I'd prefer automatic since alot of my mileage is commuting to and from work. V6 engine is nice, but not necessary. I'm not a fan of the stepside/flareside rangers with the indented/outdented sides of the bed. I'd like it to be in good if not very good shape, because I always love a nice vehicle, even my 14 year old ranger looked new

OK, what I am willing to spend, depending on year, condition, distance, etc. Anywhere from $4000-$7500 on the right truck, hopefully something located within a couple hundred miles of 17356/17360.

wow a lot of expecations. everybody wants a 4x4 these days....I would check craigslist, Ive come across quite a few like you want, but usually atleast 8000.

The good.

Recently replaced upper ball joints, driver side CV joint, shackles in the rear, and had the oil changed, all done by Ford. Also I have a brand new gas tank skid plate waiting to be installed. I get 18/20mpg driving with a somewhat heavy foot. Brakes were replaced in all 4 corners in the fall by Ford as well.

The bad.

Head gasket blew last summer, whole engine was given a once over and now runs better then ever. Had a cracked frame at the rear shock mount on the passenger side last spring, was welded and hasnt failed yet. Weld is strong as hell. Been through a rough PA winter and has held up. Dent above driver side rear wheel, deer ran into me. Literally. Small dents above exhaust exit and below gas cap.

lamarchambers, that sounds like a good price, you could post some pics in the forum or on shutterfly or something if you'd like. How many miles are on your truck, condition?

 

UPDATE: OK So I got my check from the insurance company, my price range is still the same and I'm looking locally first (within a hundred or so miles) and and willing to look farther if the right deal comes up.

I'm lookin for a sliding rear window, and power doors/locks/etc.

 

i got everything you want except the 4x4....plus some other goodies

 

heh.. I need 4x4 as I live where plows often do not go and retiring my truck for the wintertime sucked!


I see I see... I've been looking on CL localling and sometimes farther away just searching, but its hard to guess where to look. Is there a way to search CL for like several states at a time or something. Any other site I should be looking into?


Mr. Pickey here (I) know what I want now... I found one that would have been nice, but it had manual everything I was like what the heck..!

 

hey guys, just an update. I picked up a Ranger a couple days ago with my whole bucket list of "necessities".

'02 Ranger XLT 4x4 Off-Road 4 Door Supercab
Power Everything, Bedliner, Tonneau Cover, 4.0L SOHC V6 engine, Automatic, Mach MP3 system, fog lights, sliding rear glass window and to top it all off its only got 67,000 miles.

i almost got one that color w/ 9k miles (2005 XLT Supercab 4x4 2D) on it for 14,500. but i didnt like the dealer that had it so i went with the one i have from a Ford Dealership...
