Quick story time about this old girl almost killing me yesterday. I was on my way to school with my friend behind me, and we started coming up on traffic. I started braking early like a responsible driver ( mainly because my girlfriend was in the truck) and I noticed the truck didn't start slowing down, I pressed the brakes harder, nothing. At this point I came up with three options in a span of 1.7 seconds, freak out and scare my girl and have her yelling at me while i figure out what to do, slam on the emergency brake and pray I slide to a stop before hitting traffic, or start down shifting and aim for the ditch. With my new tires at risk, I happily chose option two. My friend behind me said he about swerved off the road when he saw it. He said that he saw my brake lights come on, then off, and then all of a sudden the back end hopped up and smoke started boiling from the back tires. He also thought I was going to die, I love the confidence my friends have in my driving. So now its sitting at the shop where I work, parts got here this afternoon and hopefully it will be finished tonight or else I'll have nothing to drive tomorrow.

Glad no one was hurt.........and no Ranger was hurt of course
Had Rear brake line rust out and break going down a hill.
(Common thing on Rangers, just FYI, line breaks between gas tank and frame, have had two Rangers do the same thing)
Push pedal down and you would start to slow but pedal just kept on going down to the floor, so no stopping
Traffic was light but there was a stop light at the bottom of the hill
Managed to get slowed down enough to make a left turn on to an also most level side road.
Yes, not a great feeling when brakes are not working, REALLY MAKES YOU THINK.
Brakes are just something you don't think about, they just always work...........until they don't

Yes, you should. Like Ron said and as I learned, brakes always work, until they don't then you're screwed. Like with anything it's probably best to take preventive measures to avoid a $900 bill in parts alone, luckily me and my boss were able to simply do an entire brake system in 8 hours
