"connection caution light switch" is what I assume is the headlight switch/factory bulb pigtail. Makes sense because the "controller box" should interrupt the link between the bulbs and the switch.

 

i'm mostly just not wanting to use the ballasts they are sending me, and i am not completely clear on how the highbeam setup works, and how the ballasts connect to everything... i'm sure i am over thinking it all though

 

Like I said...you're overthinking it all. Every pic in those ebay kits and even me seeing it in person, the connections are standard hid kit connections. The power to ballast connection is the same. The ballast to bulb connection is the same. I'd say run the ones they give ya til they go. The slims tend to be more reliable and long lasting compared to the big fat ballasts...even though I'm still running over 3 year old cheapo big ballasts in my truck right now.

In other words, I don't think you've got any issues to worry about. You can run anyones HID ballast if you wanted to.

 

fair enough... maybe i'll buy them, then upgrade to a 55w down the road...

 

Theres a bunch of places that sell them all over, I think the proper name for them is plug and play projectors or something like that. The ones Mike used are the older ones now, their called G1 or G2 I forget. Now they have G2 or G3 ones (a number higher than whatever his are) which look a tiny bit different and have better output with a nicer cutoff. If do you some seaching around google you'll see. I saw a few tutorials on a Civic forum and a couple others that explained the Gx thing better.

 

Yeah....I hadn't looked for projo's retro kits in a while(whenever I met up with him is when I got to looking last). But last night I found the kit I found months ago, they've got 1 kit left. I liked it for the backlighting that lit up the now unused reflector. Oh well. I now see tons of kits on ebay and elsewhere with very varying prices with the G2 or G3 name attached or whatever.

Im sort of pissed that when I ordered my own kit up, the only color the had was a 6000k temp ring around for the angel eye, I wanted an Amber and to hook it up to my turn signal.. oh well though!

 

The problem that I see with these kits are the bulbs. If a bulb dies, as I understand you just can't go buy a spare very easily. I hear that nobody sells the bulbs by themselves and since it is not a standard size they are very tricky to come by. I haven't done a ton of research on this yet so anybody can correct me if they have real facts.

That site has a good size chart for the different generations of the projectors. I determined that the ones that I bought from ebay are G3's. I have an 09 Ranger, and sadly, these G3's will not fit in the headlight housing (too long and unable to re-fit the original lens). Did they change the headlight housing in 09, or did I just get the wrong kit? Just wanted to post so others are aware of this compatibility issue.

Actually the morimotos are much better projectors than the G1, G3's .

 

I think Ill get a good video of the headlights themselves.. while you might not find the 'exact' same kit I had purchased, you can find like kits - and all of them are roughly the same style of install. It wouldnt be too hard to get a driving video, the only problem is that trying to record headlights in a night time environment while driving is extremely hard to do (ISO wise) unless you have a fancy HD camera.

 

Wow, if this set will work, I just might be in love. Anyone with a little more experience see any problems with the kit? On some of the other offers from the same seller, the small ones are specified as the G5 lights, and the larger ones are said to be G3's.

They have pretty poor cutoff performance as far as projectors go. I suggest you visit JVX's threads on hidplanet.com.

I don't want to have to cut my housing for the projector to fit so the morimotos are out. When the kit on eBay says hid bi-xenon projector h4 9007...etc...is the h# and 9007 that important, or are they all the same?
