Redranger4.0's Motorcycle Build thread.
The bike is officially a rolling chassis now. My roomate finally brought down the forks and front fender, so I threw the forks on and put the front wheel in for now so that i Can at least roll it around.
I got some new pictures of the bike and motor, in my basement, which is now my work shop. I got the motor all ready to go. The timing is all set. I opened up the carbs and they look like they were recently rebuilt so Im going to throw them on the motor and see how it goes. Worst case I have to rebuild them. I have the tank mostly sanded down and the emblem mounts on the side of it are filled in. My Dirtbike is also down there getting some new forks and maybe a top end rebuild.

For bars Im trying to order these: (87-0513)

I pulled the harness to thin it out.
My growing pile of wires.

This bike is going to be simple. No tach, No speedo, just headlight, taillight and enough wires to run the bike.

Can't wait to see it finished. No speedo, how are you going to judge speed and keep out of tickets?
Flow of traffic for the most part. plus this bike started as a cruiser. She isnt a power house so I'm not real worried about it. If I can find a small speedo that will work with my stock speedo cable then I might pick one up but if not then ill be running with out it.
yeah, hell my truck hasnt had a speedo for about a year. I've learned to feel how fast im going now, same happens on a bike, you'll know by feel, the gear your in and/or the sound after a while.
A couple updated pictures nothing huge.
Found some old Dirtbike bars laying around that will be similar to the bars that will be going on the bike so I threw them on just to get rid of the stock ugly ones. I will also be cutting the coils on the rear shocks about an inch which is said to give about 2" of drop in the back.

not right away. I dont want to cut it all up then decide I dont like it. Im going to lower it for now. Then depending on how I like it Ill go from there.
Nice. I used to have a maxim xj550 when I was younger. Those bikes were tanks. The engines never died. The thing was an 1981 model as well and I bought it in 03. Nice work on the bike. I wish I had your dedication.
The motor is back in, I borrowed my friends seat to see what she will look like. The back is lowered about 2" the front is lowered about 1.5" but will most likely be going back to stock height. The rear rim is painted as you can see. Im not using that tire hence not taping it off. The lights are just taped in there for now as I have to do some special wiring for them as they are only single filiment lights. They will most likely end up being mounted higher to keep them out of the tire.
