Hey hoping to get some helpful information here because I'm at a loss.. I bought a 1994 ranger 4.0 5speed manual 2wd it has about 267xxx miles and for the most part it runs good but gets horrible mpg like maybe 10-12... I have replaced plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel filter, fixed 3 fuel leaks it had put new bank one o2 sensors in when we replaced the clutch... I'm at a loss it idles a little rough like if you were not looking for it you probably wouldn't notice it... For the most part I try to keep cruising rpms under 2000 also.. Its not throwing any codes either.. Before I get asked yes I put all recommended plugs and wires in not just bottom of the barrel crap.

 

Try reading the vacuum while idling. A 25 year old quarter million miler could easily have worn timing parts.
Then do a compression test on each cylinder. Dry first then wet.

If you drive it at all, take mileage readings using fill-ups as your zeros every 100 or so miles. Gallons divided by miles actually driven = mileage. Then fill-up and do it again.
Exact numbers can help.
Give your fuel a good dose of Techron and see if anything changes. I've read the PEA in Techron works upon shutdown so add it before a stint of local driving.

well i replaces the coolant temp sensor and sending unit recleaned the mass air flow and throttle position sensor and made a mess bleeding the coolant system and it seems to be doin much better it has 31inch tires on it and im reading that with the bigger tires it throws the odometer off so I drove it yesterday by Google maps was 145miles and the odometer read 113.

 

An >28% increase! Ergo, your, "maybe 10-12" could be 12.8 - 15.4 mpg.
Just for giggles, restore the factory tires (you got 'em?) and check the mileage accurately.
