How-to section idea

How-to section idea
I love the how-to section. I know there is so much that can be done to our trucks and sometimes the task is daunting. Well done how-to's are a wonderful tool. I realize not everyone has time to perform a mod while taking pictures the whole time, then sit down and put what they did into a nice little how-to package with pictures and captions etc..
My thought is that maybe others do have the time? Maybe there could be a requested how-to section and if someone is doing that item they could write a how-to and submit it. Perhaps some people, "editors" if you will, could be given the how-to info and compile it in a standard format for submission. Maybe I'm goin way overboard but I feel how-to's are an overlooked aspect of the Ranger community.
Daddy Grigg's cardomain page alone is worth money it's so valuable.
I have time to help if needed and I'd be happy to help with something...

Thanks, Bryan! Send the money to...lol
I have put everything on my Cardomain site in self-defense. Political winds, format changes, board migrations: all have decimated my how-to's of the past. I'm not writing them more than once, so I just host them myself. I have told the management here and at Djayenos that they are welcome to download and reformat my how-to's into something that fits the site format, as long as I still get author credit, and the how-to remains as clear, or more clear, than I wrote it.

one of these days, when a moderator wants to take the responsibility(as bob has in the past) to be in charge of the how-to's, i would want a standard format... and then we would give credit, just like they do at RPS...
when RPS wanted my how-to on the 12v source in the bed, they just im'ed me, i gave em permission and they made it better and formatted it how they best saw fit and ta-da it is on there site, now...
we will have a nicely arranged how-to section eventually...
just takes time...

I'd like to help with that endeavor as well. I want to see our how-to section referenced on other sites....I want to see multiple pages of how-to's of all varying degrees of difficulty so everyone will find something they can do. Most sites get a list of how-to's and it doesn't get touched. It's like a token how-to section so they can say they have one. There are so many of us I don't think it would be tough to get new how-to's all the time....

Tell you guys what then.. Why don't we start by getting a format for the how-tos? Draw up a couple, post 'em in ONE thread, and then we'll figure out which one to use.
Then after that, if you guys want to start writing them, go for it! I'm thinking we'll create a how-to submission forum. Post 'em there, let members add their opionions and such, then we can either re-write or just move it to a different spot? I dunno about that, but I definitely want to see input from the members who have done or are going to do some of these mods before we make it official.
Details to be worked out I guess.. But, the first step would be to come up with a format for them.

My ideas towards the standard:
1.) Approximate mod time
2.) Difficulty rating (possible voting by members so it's not one person deciding)
3.) Tools needed
4.) Pictures if possible

I know how you feel John. All my info is in the website linked in my signature. Anyone is welcome to recompile it into a "how to" and host it here. I've had to move the data twice now, so I'm not up to doing it again. I'm looking for a more permanent place; as I have more info but my useless Intrenet provider has shut down FTP access. The data used to be on FTW, but their admins are serious idiots when it comes to site administration.
