Thread Title Editing

I think it would be useful if the original poster could edit the title of the thread after it's made to correct any errors or change a status.

Do you think it'd be useful?

yes but it could also cause a lot of jokes/immacure behavior. such as a certain title up for 2 mins then a new one or somthing....it would have to be regulated like once every 6 hours or somthing it re-sets

Even if the original poster was the only one able to?

You posted a good idea though. Maybe one change per 6 hours or even 12 hours. Mainly just to fix mistakes.

I've noticed alot of mispelled words in titles. If you guys are like me your better at spelling than typing.

You can change the title in the thread view, but in the thread listing, it's still wrong.

I'm not even 100% sure this is possible, but I would surely imagine it is.

I've always wondered why it doesn't work. You can change it but it doesn't show up on the main page just on the thread itself.

IDK about vBulletin forums, but there are others you can do it on. It's most useful on for sale threads, since you can edit the title to say "sold" or "delete" or something similar. Some even have options to delete the thread yourself.

It's a good idea, but it won't work.

For one, the search function goes off of thread titles, as well as posts. If somebody changed the thread title after getting an answer to their question, then it would throw off the search.

we have mods.

all it takes is a short pm to a mod(who's active) detailing what you need to change, and it'll be done.

If we could do it ourselves that would be one less things for the mods to do though.

Well maybe I'll do some searching on the vBulletin database to see what I come up with as far as turning it on.

Thanks Zach!

it needs to have its consequences if used wrongly, just like yelling fire in a movie theater...

other then that I think it would be a good idea

These settings can be configured in...

ACP > vBulletin Options > Message Posting and Editing Options

Possibly in there? This is just a preliminary search I'm doing.

From what I can understand we need the option under thread tools for "Edit Thread" and the title can be changed there.

http://forum.vbulletinsetup.com/f18/...ange-5921.html

It may depend how you have your editing settings configured.

ACP -> vBulletin Options -> Message Posting and Editing Options -> Time Limit on Editing of Thread Title

Other forums I belong to allow editing of the thread titles by the OP, its very useful and I've never seen it abused. I suppose it could be abused, but what's the point? I don't think it would adversely affect search either. I mean, if someone accidentally mis-spells something in the title of a post, what are the chances someone searching will mis-spell it the same way when searching threads? Better to allow editing and let the mods punish those doing anything beyond the scope of reason.

I turned it on. The first person to abuse it though it gets turned off!

You now have 10 minutes to edit or change a thread title.
