I'm experimenting on one wheel right now, trying to fix them. Sand, polish, reclearcoat. I will post my results. I might attempt to use some sort of thinner on them though, in order to strip the clear coat.
Too bad you are so far away because I'd definitely offer to help get the wheels all polished up. I've done this exact thing to wheels in the past.

Sorry to hear Fred. I wish you lived closer. Superior wheel (wheel makers and refinishers) are 20 minutes away. They could make those things look new. For a price. Lol. Try using maguires scratch-x that might help them. Otherwise I have some polish I can send you that might work from my jewelry shop. You still got my number? If not pm me.

I know STL just went through this same thing with a speaker box. He made a post and a friend of that member deleted it. Sad. At least yours is still open. Anyway good luck!

Mint or like new condition to some people is crap to others. Sorry but it's true.

Thanks for the support guys.

I figured he had started a thread somewhere, without posting the details of the trade. You guys can see for yourself, he lies on THAT FORUM when he says that he told me they needed polished. He said no such thing.

Umm.. I THOUGHT that the clear is just scratches.. but... I started wetsanding lastnight. I tried 2000 grit, trying to see if it'd get the scratches out, and it wouldnt. I ended up working my way down to 800 grit before they started disappearing, then of course back out to 2000 grit, followed by a metal polish. I have 1 wheel half way polished now. It does look better, but certainly not perfect. I will post pictures when I finish it. Of course I will have to have them coated again once I finish..

Meh dont worry about that Mark. I am over it, its behind us. Its all good man. That isnt a big deal like this, I shouldn't have made it into as big of a deal.

EDIT: Besides Mark, I dont feel like you deliberately lied to me and attempted to screw me over.

That sucks Freddie! The fact that you drove 3 hrs to pick them up is bad enough! If you hadn't picked them up, regardless you would have been stuck with the raw end of the deal. No good outcome at all...I wish ya luck with those. I'm sure you could polish them up pretty good. But wow, that was a shady move on his part, if the wheels were in the condition that he initially said, this would've never happened.

That forum looks like a bunch of jackasses. I'm not sure it would even be worth my time to take the truth to that thread.

It is to a point. I pretty much use it because of the classifieds on it, people are posting up new stuff like every minute it seems like. But there is some good info in the tech section for being so broad among different vehicles. He posted that thread in "The Pub" which is pretty much a anything goes type of thing to a certain extent.

Ha Ha you're telling me. I was nervous that my like new condition wouldn't match up to someone elses standards when we traded but I'm glad we were both happy.

I just bought a part from another guy that was supposed to be in mint condition/no damage to the finish. It showed up all scratched up and missing the finish in a rather large part and with broken parts. I asked for a pic but the guy assured me it was in mint condition. I guess its my fault for not forcing a picture but I trusted the guy. Big mistake. Its sad when people don't hold up to there in end of the bargain. I didn't make a big stink about it cause I'm a new member and I'm sure the tide would turn against me.

On a some what positive note to the original poster, the wheels should be fixable. It'll take a lot of sanding but they should shine up like new. It sucks you have to invest the time and money when you should have to but its not a total loss.

Yep. For sure. I've got ONE of them closer to being ready for clear coat. I'm still going to have to find another polish that gets them even closer to perfect. I will post pics of that wheel later on when I have time.

I know Matt! I'm STILL kicking myself in the *** over it. Guess it was a lesson. From now on, I will speak my mind, not bite my tongue, the moment when **** like this happens.
