One reason I try to avoid UPS is because I do not support unions. Unions are unamerican and everytime I hear of a strike, I wish that all strikers lose their jobs. Who are the union members loyal to, their unions or their employers? Use Fedex or USPS and throw the union members a message that we will not tolerate their unamerican ways no more!

wow. Unions are why we have an 8 hour workday and 40 hour work week, fair wages, child labor laws, workplace safety laws, worker's comp, and a slew of other VERY American things that most people take for granted. Unions pushed the government to act in the interest of the people against the barons and tycoons of the industrial revolution. Without them, you'd have been working 12-14 hour days at 10 years old for peanuts. Unions build our cities, our bridges, our roadways. Unions built the tanks and planes that won WWII. Unions built your truck. So before you go spewing vitriolic neo-con rhetoric nonsense about how un-American unions are, read a little bit.

I realize that there is a good deal of corruption, nepotism, and unneeded bureaucracy that comes along with unions, but you can't say the same isn't true for private businesses as well, and there is a very strong argument that private companies and MNCs have more clout with the US government than any labor union could dream of having.

PS: I realize this post is way off topic for the thread, but i couldn't let this nonsense slip by unchallenged.

You're right, unions did a lot of great things in their early decades. However, they've become a nuisance in and of themselves. I have a lot of first hand experience with unions. Also, my father was union his whole life, and he was one of the hard workers, who had a lot of problems with the union, because they would push guys to slow down and drag out jobs and/or get more guys in on jobs. I currently work around 3 different unions, and getting anything done is like pulling teeth. I'm lucky if I can get 2 hours of actual work out of a guy in an 8 hour shift. Almost every disciplinary action gets challenged and thrown out via arbitration, and workers are complacent as all hell. This isn't "vitriolic neo-con rhetoric nonsense", it's cold, hard fact, and I could site countless examples of this. The unions have gone from protecting workers from being exploited to an organization that raises the cost of getting anything done, and causes companies to shut down, sub-contract, or move out of the country.

Ironic, but this is the exact reason why I felt the need to post. Too many people are blind as to how bad the situation has gotten with unions.

^^^ Agree with you 100%. Unions have become a problem and they don't seem to be a solution to anything anymore. Were businesses back in the day treating workers unfairly? Yes. Did workers banding together to stand up to the companies need to happen? Yes. Is that happening now? No. Now unions do nothing but cost everyone extra money, allow lazy people to be lazy on the job, people to get overpaid for work they aren't doing, allow people who should be fired stay on the job and cost everyone else time and money.

Ive ordered stuff from Oklahoma thru UPS it went from OK to IN, then to MI, then to CA then to Dallas then to my home. LOL as I recall the box weighed over 100 LBS, arrived scuffed and worn, They sure lost money shipping it all over the US when its only about 400 miles from home to OK city.
