Not cheap but one of the best.
If you do plan to do other modifications, I would wait on this. It wont be as effective with something added on after

How is your axel geared (3.55, 3.73, 4.10, or 4.56)?

I've got 4.10 gears in mine and haven't been too disappointed, even with 31" tires.

Losing top end? I'm running 4.10 in the rear and I can still hit 94 mph in third gear. You don't need to worry about that with the level of what you're doing. Besides, as long as you keep the same final drive ratio (tire diameter)/(gearing), dive-train performance will not change.

Let's take the usual setup, 3.73s with 29" tire (many stock 3.0L rangers)

Let's say you want to go to 31" tires

(old ratio)/(old tire diameter)=(new gear)/(new tire diameter)

(3.73)/(29)=(???)/(31)
(3.73)(31)/(29)= 3.98
You need around 3.98 gearing (3.73 or 4.10) and the truck will accelerate/tow the same as before.

33" tires
(3.73)/(29)=(???)/31 => You need around 4.24 gearing (4.10 or 4.56)

You get the idea. Go with the higher number if you want more get-up-and-go and better towing, or go with the lower number if you want better economy. I wouldn't go anything past the equivalent of what the truck was available with stock though (i.e. 4.56 gears with 29" tires).

Definitely do a full tune up though regardless.

Does that help?

The best bang for your buck IMO is a tuner and underdrive pullies.

Her we go again with the "top end " bit.

You bought a TRUCK .
Trucks are made for hauling things around at a reasonable speed.
They are made to WORK .
If you want to go fast , BUY A CAR , they are made to go faster and corner better.
Again , Trucks Are Made For A Purpose.

Trying to get performance from the 3.0L is like polishing a turd I think.
If you really want to polish the turd, maybe you could re-gear, get pullies and a tune. But it will still be a slow turd.

From the amount of threads on this, I am gonna guess like a cruise ship anchor. Probably a couple of tons.

so you're saying your speed governor is useless as well as your other two gears in terms of speed?

proof?

and you expect us to beleive that?

94 MPH
4.10:1 gear ratio
31" tall tires
3rd gear = 1.50:1
6266 RPM

your 3.0 cant spin almost 6300 rpm....

you need to review your statements before you post

I can also hit 91MPH in third with my 4.0. RPM is at about 5200ish.

But in all seriousness the 3.0 sucks for speed.

Here's a question that wasn't asked yet, despite all the BS that's being thrown around. Is it a manual or automatic tranny? The autos are crap and prone to issues.
