I'm looking at buying a used Ranger - something in the 2004 - 2006 range. Should i be concerned about Rangers that have in excess of 50,000 miles? What is the mileage lifespan of a Ranger before it begins needing lots of repairs. What should I expect to pay for a loaded Ranger 2004 - 2006?

My last one had 140,000 and except for getting the oil changed and schedules lube jobs, I never had any major repairs.

A loaded 2004-2006 ranger is around $10-$12,000. mileage of said ranger can be anywhere from 30,000 miles to 130,000.
each ranger is different, meaning some people have no major troubles while it seems others are always fixing something.

 

All depends on the previous owner too. One person could have babied it, the other beat the snot out of it.

 

I wouldn't worry about something with around 50K on it, but for those years you can find them with that without too much trouble so I wouldn't go much higher personally. For the years you are looking for, 50K would mean a truck that was driven under 15K a year, which is very reasonable. I would focus more on what kind of life it looks like it has had. What does the bedliner look like, does it have a tow package that looks like it has seen a lot of action. For something with less that 30K or so miles on it, I'd be looking for someone who didn't even go through the origional tires.

IMO, for an '04 to '06 with less than 50K miles - with a few options and 4X4 - you will be looking at more like 12K and up than 10K to 12K. Throw a couple dings and scratches in the mix and it's another ball game - but if you are looking 5 yrs old in mint condition, I wouldn't be surprised to see between $15K and $16K for trucks with <35K or 40K miles on them.

I bought my 04 xlt 4x4 loaded with the exception of manual windows and locks last May for $12,0 after all the fees and everything it had 50,700 miles on it

 

I'd call that a good deal, at least for around where I am in CT. I'd imagine like anything else prices change a littlw with location.

Another thing to consider is that if you can go with manual transmission and transfer case you will save yourself quite a bit without sacrificing any quality (maybe gaining some). Although it seems like the only manual transfer case or hub locks to be had are on the FX4 models.

i was gonna say look at milage and divide it by the age. if it's more then 20k i'd look elsewhere depending on how much more it is. but others have given excellent answers.

 

i bought my 03 fx4 with 30,000 miles for 14500 after tax and tags...not too bad

 

My 97 Ranger has 191,000 miles. No problems, just keep everything maintained well.

 

I bought mine almost a year ago now so not sure how relevant this will be but, picked up a 2006 3.0 XLT auto for $13,500 OTD with 30,300 miles on it.

 

my 08 Escape has 62,000 miles on it, and my 95 Ranger has 208,000

 

My 01 has 152,XXX miles on it and has had no major issues or mechanical problems. I've replaced the clutch and suspension components and done regular maintenance, but have had no major issues.

Since your looking at a used vehicle, it'll all depend on the previous owner(s) and how they drove and maintained it.

I've seen 01's with major body rust and problem lists as long as the truck. Some people just beat the hell out of their vehicles with no regard for them.

 

my 98 ranger has around 220,000 and still runs pretty strong.. never had any major problems out of it. but i did park it bout a month ago cuz i got me a bad A 03 edge for a pretty good deal.. hope it lasts as long as my 98...

 

My 1996 4 liter Ranger just turned 350,000km last week, and it is still virtually original. It has had 2 sets of U joints, 1 clutch, a camshaft synchronizer, a serpentine belt tensioner and a couple tail light bulbs as well as 2 sets of front brakes (the last one an upgrade to 11 inch to correct for the 16 inch wheels) I bought it 5 years ago with 307,000km on it.
"relatively" high mileage, but better than buying a new Canyon as far as I'm concerned.
