tonight I started Round two of Bush removal. This week end is predicted to be VERY nice. and I was thinking, while the ground is soft to terar out the rest of the bushes. I started tonight, in front of my garage.... the ranger REALLY struggled to get the big bush out... in fact, it came down to this simple fact: if this bush doesnt come out, I dont go to work in the moring since I am not cutting the tow strap off....

this bush - I have picture on my camera... is 10ft long, 6ft wide, and about 4ft high.... I finally after solid 20 minutes of backing up and going forward... got it out....

I have 6 more to do.... they are a big larger than that one....

Should I even attempt with the ranger? I have an E350 cube van that weighs in at about 10,000lbs... with duals.... I am seriously thinking of using that to pull the other bushes....

thoughts?

PS: 4low, doing a 4wd burn out on my driveway to get the one bush out, didnt help =/

 

If you have a 10,000 van why would you even think of using the Ranger?

But no seriously, get out the hose, get the ground wet...and use the e350

 

Dig them out a bit more and keep using the Ranger

get a few feet running start first to give them a good yank. dont worry you wont break your truck.

 

My neighbor tried to do this with his newer model Blazer... Well he tried to yank the bush out and you could just hear the really loud pop come from his truck and then when he yanked it a couple more times and finally yanked the bush up Along with the Main Water line to his house Best part was It was 6pm on a Friday haha needless to say the plumber raped him...

Oh and Then the next time he drove his truck we found out what the loud pop from his truck was... He tweeked the frame and it wouldnt drive straight or anything.. So he went and bought a Colorado 2 days later

 

so why to you have hugs bushes by your garage? id say use the van but if you insist of using your ranger get alot of friends to sit in the back and rip the bushes up

 

do the newer blazers have full frames? if so thats pretty sad. iv seen what it takes to tweak a rangers frame and they can take quite a bit of abuse. im 100% positive he wont tweak his frame trying to pull out some bushes.

 

yea he MIGHT break anything then, but why put the wear and tear on the truck. esp. when you have the van. i know it is fun when its a little of a challenge. if you MUST use the truck as stated above dig it out as much as possible AND soak the ground around it. but i would do that and use the e350 and not worry about the truck

 

i agree with you, i would use the van too. im just saying that if he wants to use the ranger, the best way would be to give them some yanking, and he doesnt have to worry about tweaking his frame. IMO, he shouldnt worry about anything breaking when doing it. all he has to do is get a head start, give it some throttle, and right before the strap tightens, let off the throttle and let the strap take the beating. its not like chain snapping where its a hard thud every time. its more like a rubber band.

 

 

Dave, I've pulled out some nasty bushes like that as well, the problem is that once they get so large, they've got pretty big trunk lines and those are what kill ya.

My advice would be to get a sawsall with a long demolition blade and cut about a 3' wide circle around the base of the bush. After a few yanks with the truck or van, you should be able to get to the trunk lines and cut those bastards apart.

 

Not as much fun, cut them off, pour on some root killer, after the roots die turn the soil, pave it, paint it green.

How does anyone let a bush grow to 10X6X4 feet in FRONT of a garage?

 

I would take the chain saw after the thing are cut the things down so you can dig alittle round it to cut some roots first. Then pull on it a bit, dig alittle more, cut roots then repeat. I don't pull things out like that with my truck thats going to be hard the pull out. I go get the tractor or bobcat which weight in around that 8500. And usually dig them up with that also...
